If you opened Splitwise to add an expense and were told you had reached a daily limit, you did not do anything wrong. The free version caps how many expenses you can add in a day.
We do not know the exact number, and we are not going to invent one. People report different figures — some say one a day, some say three or four — and it appears to have changed over time. Splitwise's own pricing page is the only reliable source for what applies to you today.
What we can tell you is what people do next.
If the app works for your group and everyone is used to it, paying is the least disruptive answer. Moving a group to a different app means moving the history, or leaving it behind.
This is a real option and we are not going to talk you out of it.
The limit is daily. If you were adding several expenses at the end of a trip, adding the rest tomorrow costs you nothing but the annoyance.
Worth knowing if this is the only time it has happened to you.
If it happens every month — a shared flat, a couple, a group that spends often — the limit is not an inconvenience, it is a wall you will hit again. That is when moving is worth the effort.

There is no daily limit. No cap on expenses, no cap on groups, no cap on people. There is no paid tier at all — not one that is coming later, not one that unlocks features. No pricing has ever been built into it.
There are no ads. Nothing is shown before adding an expense.
Recurring expenses repeat on their own. Rent, bills and subscriptions are entered once and appear each month.
A receipt photo fills in the expense. Point the camera at the receipt and the amount, the merchant and the items come back filled in.
This one has a limit and we are telling you about it: receipt scanning is capped at 12 an hour and 40 a day per account. That is the only limit in the app, it exists because scanning costs us money per photo, and typing an expense by hand is never limited.
People can be added by name. Somebody who has not installed anything can still be in the group and have a share.
Ten languages, including Turkish.
It does not move money. It records who owes whom. Paying each other back is something you do your own way — bank transfer, cash, whatever you already use — and then mark as done.
If you are looking for an app that sends the money, this is not it.
Currency conversion is limited. You can enter an expense in any of 48 currencies, but converting between them only works for Turkish lira, US dollars and euros. A group in yen works fine on its own; it just will not be converted into your other totals.

Signing in is required — there is no browsing without it. The fastest way is the guest option: no email, no password, one tap. It does create an account on your device, though, and a guest account cannot be recovered if you lose the phone.
